Just recently, we visited the magnificent Cape Town.
We drove there. A whole 14 hours. Straight. Needless to say, we won't be doing this again, unless we make a few stop overs or take the more scenic wine route. The never ending Karoo landscape trickles into the luscious greens of the Hex River Valley, and the vineyards and mountains are a sight to behold. The latter end of the journey into Cape Town is actually breathtaking. Something one can't experience in an aeroplane. So I guess that made the agonising drive worth it.
Our quaint flat, was just a flight of stairs above the busy and popular Long Street, right in the heart of the city centre. Living above a club, on a street bustling with markets and restaurants in the day and exploding with music in the evening, made it an interesting experience, to say the least. The vibrant energy clambered up onto our balcony every evening and only left as the sun rose in the early morning hours. It's no wonder this street is known as Cape Town's nightlife artery.
We tried to do as much as possible, and as first time visitors, most of our bucket list consisted of 'touristy' destinations and activities. Our days were saturated with City Bus tours, wine tram adventures, beach days and the exploration of Chapman's Peak, Cape Point, Table Mountain, Simon's Town, The V&A Waterfront, Bo-Kaap and Green Point. Something we didn't manage to do, which I still regret, was visit the historical Robben Island. Definitely first on my list during our next visit.
A week is definitely not enough in this city. What a beauty!
